Can you use ladders to access scaffolding?
Yes, in some cases a scaffolding access ladder is even required. Always make sure when installing your scaffolding, ladder, and other equipment that you follow assembly instructions and regulations. Prior to using any of the equipment, you’ll want to ensure that every part of the scaffolding setup has been properly installed.
What is the proper way to access a scaffold?
There are several ways to properly access your scaffolding system besides access ladders. For example, you can access a scaffolding system using stairs, ramps, or another direct passage from another, nearby structure. However, DO NOT USE THE SCAFFOLD FRAME to climb to the top of the scaffolding/work platform.
What are the OSHA requirements for access ladders?
OSHA requires that each step (or rung) of the scaffold access ladder needs to be able to support a load of a minimum of 250 pounds. In addition, the clear distance between the sides of the individual rung and between the side rails of other fixed ladders needs to be at least 16″.
